Our Claims

Claim #1: One of our radio ads asserts that Hussein has no nuclear weapons, or other weapons of mass destruction. How do we support this claim? And what if he acquires these weapons in the future?

Claim #2: One of our radio ads claims that Hussein has no clear ties to Osama bin Laden or other terrorist groups. Can we back-up this assertion in the face of Colin Powell's UN testimony to the contrary?

Claim #3: One of our radio ads claims that a congressional declaration of war is needed to invade Iraq, but doesn't Bush have that already?

Claim #4: One of our radio ads claims our government was told in advance by Hussein that he might invade Kuwait in 1990, but we did nothing to deter him. Can we support this claim?

Claim #5: One of our radio ads makes the startling claim that our government lied to the world before the last Gulf War when we claimed that Iraqi troops were massed on the border of Saudi Arabia, ready to invade. Can we support this serious charge?

Claim #6: One of our radio ads claims that the same people who are proposing the current war were also involved in the first one, and that their lies then should lead us to reject what they're saying now. Who, exactly, are we talking about?

Claim #7: One of our radio ads claims that Bush's plan to invade Iraq is not motivated by the "War on Terror." Can we support this claim?

The truth about Hussein's UN prohibited weapons

by Jim Babka

Did Hussein get some of his chemical and biological weapons from our government? The answer is yes.

  • Between 1985 and 1988 our government shipped both chemical and biological weapons to Hussein.

  • This was after he had invaded his neighbor, Iran, and after he had supposedly gassed the Kurds. (For the truth about the Kurdish story see The truth about Hussein's brutality.)

continued below…

      Help us remodel this site!

  • The story of our exporting chemical and biological weapons to Hussein has been reported by both conservative columnist Robert Novak and Newsweek magazine. (See foi.missouri.edu/terrorbkgd/following.html.)

  • The full story, according to Novak, is based on Senate Banking Committee documents from May 25, 1994.

Novak reports that…

"In 1985 (five years after the Iraq-Iran war started) and succeeding years, said the report, 'pathogenic (meaning 'disease producing'), toxigenic (meaning 'poisonous') and other biological research materials were exported to Iraq, pursuant to application and licensing by the U.S. Department of Commerce." It added: "These exported biological materials were not attenuated or weakened and were capable of reproduction."

So once again, we find lies, hypocrisy, and complicity on the part of our own political leaders. Everywhere we look the story is the same…

  • Hussein must be removed because he's a brutal dictator, but our own politicians have been complicit in his brutality. (See The truth about Hussein's brutality.)

  • Hussein must be removed because he's violated international law, but our own politicians have aided him in violating international law. (See The truth about violation's of international law.)

  • Hussein must be removed because he has invaded his neighbors, but our own politicians have encouraged, supported, or been complicit in these invasions. (See Claim#4 and Claim #6.)

  • And now, when we examine the claim that Hussein must be removed because he has chemical and biological weapons, we find that our own politicians have given him some of those weapons.

  • Worse still, they did this after he had used similar weapons to invade his neighbor, and after he had supposedly used similar weapons to gas his own people.

Can any reasonable person claim that our political leaders have any credibility left? And if so, on what basis? We have already shown in Claim #4, Claim #5, and Claim #6, that many of the people who are proposing war against Iraq now, have lied about the justifications for war before.

And we have also shown, in Claim #1 and Claim #2 that there is no valid reason to fear…

  • That Hussein has significant arsenals of chemical and biological weapons now,

  • Or that he could harm us with them if he did,

  • Or that there is any reason to believe he would give them to terrorists if he did have them.

There is no justification for war with Iraq.

Our Vision
"The United States goes not abroad in search of monsters to destroy. She is a well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all. She is the champion and vindicator only of her own. If the United States took up all foreign affairs, it would become entangled in all the wars of interest and intrigue, which assume the colors and usurp the standard of freedom. She might become the dictatress of the world. She would be no longer the ruler of her own soul."
